AeroShell Oils / AeroShell Oil

AeroShell Oils and AeroShell W Oil is intended for use in four-stroke cycle aircraft reciprocating piston engines. The term “ashless dispersant” was given to aviation oils to distinguish them from straight mineral aircraft piston engine oils. Because of the negative effect of ash on aircraft engine performance, it is very important that ash-containing oils are NOT used in an aircraft piston engine.

For the majority of aircraft piston engines the selection of the right grade is important to maximize engine performance and engine life. The AeroShell Oil and AeroShell Oil comes in four grades: 65 and W65; 80 and W80 and W80 Plus; 100 and W100 and W100 Plus; 120 and W120. The grades differ only by viscosity and thus cover the needs of all reciprocating engines now in airline and general aviation operation.

Frequent oil changes specified by engine hour time limits and calendar time limits are necessary and not caused by the oil wearing out but by the by-products contaminating the oils such as: water, dust, dirt and unburned fuel. Operators are urged to follow the engine manufacturers’ or rebuilders’ recommendation for oil change intervals to avoid the damaging lead sludge found in engines that can shorten engine life and possibly void warranty work by the engine manufacturer.
